Nostalgia dos anúncios dos vhs antes de ver L'Homme au Chapeau de Soie:
Je n'aimerais pas voir un film pour la première fois en vidéo ou à la télévision. On voit d'abord un film en salle. Cinéma et vidéo, c'est effectivement la différence entre un livre qu'on lit et un livre qu'on consulte. Pour moi comme cinéphile ,la vidéo bouleverse ma vie . Prenez "Sérénade à trois" de Lubitsch par exemple ,avant s'il passait quelque part, j'y allais ; Sachant que je devrais attendre peut-être deux ans avant de pouvoir le revoir. Depuis il m'arrive de le visionner trois fois dans la même semaine. Avoir un film en vidéo m'en donne une connaissance beaucoup plus intime. En tant que cinéphile ,je suis un fanatique de la vidéo.
(Eu não desapareci, não senhor. Vou estando por aqui, o tempo é que voa. Mas daqui a uma semana volto em força com muita cinefilia e fanatismo pela cultura.)

E assim, de repente, fiquei com uma vontade enorme de ver toda a série The Blues e todos os documentários de Martin Scorcese e da PBS. Ainda não vi nenhum dos episódios, mas o que não me falta é curiosidade. Agora é só arranjá-los para preencher uma tarde de blues. Entretanto, fiquem com Nick Cave e Lou Reed.

The Blues

Director Wim Wenders explores the lives of his favorite blues artists — Skip James, Blind Willie Johnson, and J. B. Lenoir — in a film that is part history and part personal pilgrimage. The film tells the story of these artists' lives in music through a fictional film-within-a-film, rare archival footage, and covers of their songs by contemporary musicians, including Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Lou Reed, Eagle Eye Cherry, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Cassandra Wilson, Garland Jeffreys, Los Lobos, and others.
Because there was no archive footage in existence of either Blind Willie Johnson or Skip James, Wenders used actors to play their roles but shot the scenes with an old 1920s black-and-white camera that lends realism, later using digital technology to fit the music to the pictures.
Says Wenders: "These songs meant the world to me. I felt there was more truth in them than in any book I had read about America, or in any movie I had ever seen. I've tried to describe, more like a poem than in a 'documentary,' what moved me so much in their songs and voices."
The documentary is the first in a seven-part series called "The Blues," which features films by Mike Figgis, Charles Burnett, Clint Eastwood, Marc Levin, Richard Pearce and Martin Scorsese (who also executive produced the series).
